About
Mehar Rangat
Mehar Rangat has been conceptualized as an annual Indian Folk Arts Event where ancient, mystical performance art forms from across India will be showcased to the world. Some of these art forms are on the brink of being lost in the pages of time and the motive behind Mehar Rangat is to revive and revitalize these ancient art forms that form an integral part of our rich cultural tapestry.
Each year, Mehar Rangat will bring to your harmonious, melodic, spellbinding performances by artistes who are maestros in in art forms like Indian Lok Sangeet, Jogi, Bhajanopdeshak, Swang, Dhola, Manganiyaars, Banjaare, Sapere, etc.
History Unfolded
Pandit Mehar Kher
Mahashay Pandit Mehar Kher, a beloved priest, would perform Nirguni Lok Geet, with his iktara in villages. Padmashri Kailash Kher attributes his musical abilities to this music that he heard during his childhood. He dedicates his music and his success to the beaming source of power & the simplicity of his father and Nirguni Lok Geet that he was a proponent of.
At a young age he witnessed how music could make the burliest monsters weep like a child and how it could fill a flailing poor farmer with courage and strength. Mehar Rangat is an annual Indian Folk Arts Festival conceptualized and created by Padmashri Kailash Kher as a tribute to his father and the Nirguni Lok Geet art form.
